Information About Alison - Swaffham teacher
This is how 3 referees rated Alison:
I am an ex-professional player (London orchestras) and have taught violin for over 30 years. I studied music at the Royal college of music, gaining a teaching and performing diploma. I then went on to do orchestral studies in the external department of Oxford university. I have performed in many countries with orchestras, and am part of a music group that performs in schools, prisons and care homes and raises money for charity. I am married to a violinist, have 3 grown up children and live in Norfolk.
I have taught children from the age of 6 upwards and from beginners up to grade 8 and diploma standard. I have taught 1-1 in schools across Essex and Hertfordshire, with County music services and privately in my home. I am also a qualified early years teacher, teaching group music sessions for young children and have experience teaching children with dyslexia, ADHD and autism. I am committed and loyal and have seen many children through from beginners to mature players. I have put many children in for exams and have nearly 100% pass rate. I have also taught adults, who want to return to playing for fun after a career.
I think learning an instrument should be fun and rewarding! I am friendly and encouraging and use a variety of music styles and creative games, and use the ABRSM syllabus for exams. My approach to teaching is that every child is unique and has their own individual learning style, so I plan and prepare lessons to their strengths and abilities. I understand that learning an instrument is more than just about the end results but also the many rich experiences involved in the process. In the lessons I include aural and listening skills, theory of music, appreciation of general music and improvisation. I think having good technical skills is important for satisfaction in playing and acquiring tools necessary for progress. I can play the piano to accompany them and teach theory of music to grade 5.
