Personal Description:

I graduated from my BA with a 2:1 in Music in the summer of 2011. At university I specialised in Composition and Saxophone performance but I also teach early grades Piano (up to Grade 4). I have been teaching music lessons since 2012, and am convinced it is one of the best and most enjoyable things I have ever chosen to do.

In 2014 I completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Music Education at Trinity Laban Conservatoire.

Tutoring Experience:

Since starting out as an independent private tutor in April 2012, I have successfully helped students through several ABRSM exams, with a 100% pass rate (50% merit and above).

I specialise in beginner lessons on both piano and woodwind, using a patient and relaxed approach to introduce technique and music theory at each student's pace.

I have experience teaching privately at home and in local schools, and I have also lead several local student bands.

Tutoring Approach:

Lessons have a friendly, informal atmosphere and are carefully tailored to the learning styles and goals of each student. I often put together bespoke arrangements for my students (most recently the Peppa Pig theme tune for my youngest pianist!) and, particularly for music theory, exercises and fact sheets targeting areas of knowledge which need strengthening. These are accompanied by clear explanations of musical concepts, and games to help enforce understanding in a fun way.

My patience and ability to relate to students of all ages makes lessons fun and encourages pupils to reach their full potential. Particularly with children and teenagers one of my goals is to instil a high level of confidence, which helps them in many different areas of their lives.

Lessons are held at my house in Newmarket, and I am willing to discuss travelling to the student’s home for lessons (taking distance into consideration). I have taught students aged 3 to 80.
