Personal Description:

Hi, I'm Alice, a clarinet teacher and sound engineer.
I picked up my first clarinet in primary school and never looked back! During school I took accredited Clarinet examinations through to grade six, and then studied Classical Music at GCSE level and as an A-Level. At university I combined Classical music with Music Technology and received a Bachelor of Music Studies in Music Technology.
My combination of musical skills led my career to the theatre, and I have worked on over 15 different West End productions, including 'Matilda', 'Phantom of the Opera' and 'Hairspray'. Currently I have over 11 years of experience in music and music technology, and work as the Deputy Head of Sound at the international phenomenon "Hamilton: An American Musical", in the West End.

Working in theatre has given me the opportunity to work intimately with 1st class musicians performing in bands and orchestras, immersing me in the musical world and keeping my passion for playing alive.

No matter where life takes me, I have always been able to return to my clarinet for pure joy and peace of mind. It has also provided me with a unique skill, and has taught me the value of structure and discipline that are skills transferable to any job or life ambition.

I thoroughly enjoy imparting the wisdom and skills I have learnt, to enthusiastic and budding musicians of all ages.

Tutoring Experience:

I am an experienced Sound Engineer Teacher (in theatre)

Tutoring Approach:

I believe it is important to have a relaxed and safe space when you are learning anything because, learning an instrument and building a relationship with music is so exciting and personal.
I find the Simultaneous Learning (introduced by the clarinettist Paul Harris) to be highly productive and effective. This standard of learning allows the learning process to be fun and easy to understand.
By breaking up a piece of music (without the knowledge of the student) and learning the "ingredients" the goes into that piece for example, which key it is in, the rhythm, time signature etc will allow the student to recognise these things when presented with said piece.

My lessons can be tailored to suit any ability, so whatever your musical background, bring some optimism and drive and let's get learning!
