Personal Description:

My name is Alexis, otherwise known as Lexi, and I am a classically trained musician in singing, flute, piano and music theory. I have a bachelor degree in music (with honours) which I obtained from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where I studied vocal and operatic studies.

I love to meet new people and share my musical passion with others. :)

Tutoring Experience:

I have experience with teaching younger children, both on a one to one basis, in groups, and within a classroom environment.
Whilst studying for my degree I acted as a mentor for students ranging from ages 3-18 at the Royal Birmingham Junior conservatoire, where I acted as a classroom assistant, undertook warm up sessions, and advised individuals. I have also studied and been assessed in modules of pedagogy and community engagement.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to teach my students their discipline(s) through covering all areas: learning through practical playing, but also simultaneously improving musicianship through aural and theory training.

Past experience has taught me the importance of incorporating a variety of approaches to learning and teaching. Different people learn in different ways, and through various teaching methods (e.g verbal, visual, practical) I aim to work together with my students, to discover what works well for them, ensuring they are able to achieve their potential.

Furthermore, I am passionate about the importance of confidence when performing - wether it be in front of an audience or in an exam situation. Teaching my students how to approach these scenarios, staying relaxed, and overcoming nerves (which is always normal) is one of the best hurdles to conquer when achieving their goals.
