Alex is a jazz pianist and a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. He received classical training as a child and, after discovering his affinity for jazz, went on to study a jazz degree. During his college years, Alex had the pleasure of playing with the Guildhall Jazz Big Band at the Milton Court Concert Hall and has performed at other formal venues such as the New Theatre in Oxford. Alex has performed with a variety of groups at such London venues as the Camden Assembly, Upstairs at Ronnie's and the Toulouse Lautrec Wine Bar, as well as appearing regularly at the monthly jazz night he runs at an East London cafe. He has achieved Grade 8 ABRSM and is DBS checked.
Alex has had the pleasure of helping many students develop their playing. He has been teaching for several years now, working in schools as well as with his own private students. He currently teaches for Academy Performing Arts in Plumstead, East London.
Alex can help you learn your favourite songs or pieces, develop your keyboard facility or teach you jazz technique. He can teach you to read music, train your ear and help you with accompaniment and ensemble playing. Music theory is covered as and when it is relevant to the playing. The exact content of lessons is tailored to the needs and interests of the student. Alex welcomes all ability levels: beginners through to advanced students. Lessons take place at Alex's home studio in Crystal Palace/Penge and he also offers online tuition.
