Information About Alex - Solihull teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Alex:
I am a graduate from the university of Birmingham, where I obtained a first-class joint honours degree in Music and Maths, and received multiple awards for my academic success. I have considerable experience in making music, through individual playing, group playing, ensemble leading, teaching, recording and producing. I received a high distinction in my ABRSM Grade 8 Piano in 2012. Since then I have been successful in a number of competitions, most notably winning the 16-18 age category of the Birmingham music festival in 2014. In the same year I performed a Mozart concerto with the Solihull Symphony Orchestra for their annual Rising Stars concert programme. At university I accompanied many of my peers for their recitals, culminating in playing with nine final year students for their end of degree exams. Since 2012 I have had jazz lessons with Mike Williams and John Turville at the Birmingham Conservatoire. I have been the pianist for the University of Birmingham Big Band, the New Music Ensemble, the Jazz Church Big Band, and have played and led several small jazz groups.
I am an experienced and passionate teacher. In my view, education in music is one of the most powerful tools for enabling people to develop creativity and expression. During my own education it was often those who taught me music that influenced me most, providing inspiration and teaching me discipline for both my musical development and other areas of my life. I have been teaching piano since 2013 and have also tutored GCSE and A-level maths. My piano pupils have encompassed a variety of ages, abilities and learning preferences. I tailor my lessons so that they engage and inspire the specific individual being taught.
I can teach many genres and contexts of piano: classical, jazz, pop, solo playing, ensemble playing, you name it. I like to make sure that, regardless of style they want to play, every student understands the fundamentals of music theory, as this enables better performing. However, I combine this with practical pieces and exercises that makes the learning experience enjoyable!
