I’m an experienced professional freelance guitarist and teacher with a number of years experience in the music business. I have a 4 year First Class Bachelor of Music Degree from the Royal Northern College of Music specialising in Electric Guitar. I have experience playing live and teaching in a number of styles including jazz, rock, pop, funk, soul and blues to name a few. I’m also a multi-instrumentalist competent on bass, drums and piano as well has having an in depth knowledge of pop and jazz theory and a highly trained musical ear.
I also offer basic/intermediate pop/jazz piano lessons. I have played piano for 15+ years and whilst I’m not a trained classical pianist by any means, I do have an extensive knowledge of pop/jazz harmony and melody and can help you in relating and applying these concepts to the piano. These lessons may be particularly helpful for someone who plays another instrument but is looking to get their keyboard skills up to scratch (something I would highly recommend for any musician). Perhaps you’re a classical pianist who is looking to play jazz or pop but doesn’t understand the concepts involved. I can help! I can’t guarantee much help with ABRSM grades or notation reading on piano, but I can offer some very applicable real world contemporary keyboard skills and knowledge (forming/understanding chords, reading charts, basic improvisation skills etc) which I believe you’ll find very useful as a second instrument keys player or otherwise. *These lessons are not for you if you are already at an advanced standard*
I was the guitar tutor in Oldham Sixth Form college teaching 1-to-1 guitar lessons to music A Level and BTEC students. I have a variety of private teaching experience and I have run workshops/summer schools for ensembles and instrumental classes on a number of occasions, including in Dulwich College in Shanghai, China.
I will tailor my lessons to the individual needs/wants of the student. If you want me to help you learn your favourite songs without getting bogged down in the theory that’s completely fine. Or if you want to take an advanced theory approach relating jazz harmony to the guitar fretboard that’s fine too, or anywhere in between! I can also help you relate ideas/concepts to other instruments if you have previous experience on piano/bass/drums. I can work on music theory and ear training with you to a high standard. I can only offer basic help with regards to classical music theory as this is not something I’ve studied for a number of years.
I can assist in preparing for auditions for music colleges/conservatoires etc too if this is something you need help with as I went through the same process myself a number of years ago. Or if you wish me to help you through Rockschool Grades on Guitar this is also fine.
I can travel within a 10 mile radius of where I live or further afield for a higher fee to cover my expenses.
