Information About Alan - Newbridge teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Alan:
I am an experienced organist and instrumental teacher, having worked in churches in England, Scotland and Norway for 40 years.
I studied music at Exeter Cathedral, at Exeter School, the Royal School of Church Music (summer course) and at the University of Bristol. At university, my musical experience was wide, including work as a percussionist in the University Symphony Orchestra and as a member of the University Early Music Group, and as well as my keyboard skills, I have practical playing experience on violin, rebec, recorder, crumhorn, timpani, percussion, vibraphone and nakers.
I have worked as a school organist accompanying services and theatrical productions, and have acted as an accompanist to soloists at local competitive music festivals and for grade examinations.
Through my father, a pupil of Frank Merrick, I can trace my teaching lineage via Leschetizky and Czerny to Beethoven, Bach and beyond.
I have also worked as a Local Representative for Trinity College London, thus gaining knowledge of the workings of the music examinations system.
Since graduating from the University of Bristol, I have worked as a successful private music teacher, offering tuition in piano, organ and music theory. I have also worked as a visiting instrumental teacher at independent schools. My pupils have consistently performed well at grade examinations, mostly gaining Merit or Distinction.
I have a friendly approach, tailoring teaching methods to each individual pupil's abilities. As well as the technique, style and interpretation of solo organ playing, I include tuition in service playing, as much of an organist's work will be playing for church services, weddings and funerals. Having worked on the staff of Anglican, Roman Catholic, Lutheran and Scottish Episcopal parishes, I can offer a broad overview of the whole spectrum of Christian liturgies and the role of the organist in them.
I hold a current PVG certificate issued by Disclosure Scotland.
