Personal Description:

My PhD level research in modern history combined with my training as an orchestral musician with professional experience in the jazz and rock worlds gives me a unique perspective when teaching students in music history, music production and music technology. I have recently produced a jazz album on behalf of one of the regular bands at London's Ronnie Scott's jazz club and am happy to impart valuable experiences gained from this to my students. My knowledge of a wide range of musical styles and production techniques has given me a broad perspective to help educate students with a variety of musical interests.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught private students in the following courses since 2008:
--The history of modern orchestral conducting
--The Music Industry: 1920-2014
--The Evolution of Recording Technology
--The History of Russian Music
--European Classical Music from Beethoven to Stockhausen
--The History of Jazz and Jazz Fusion
--The History of Progressive Rock
--From Rock and Roll To Hip-Hop: Trends In Modern Music

Tutoring Approach:

: I structure my tutoring to give each student the kind of skill set he or she requires. This includes tutoring to prepare a student for an examination, tutoring a student who wants to be introduced to a new subject or working with a student who wants to expand his or her knowledge in a particular subject area. Even when preparing a student for a specific exam, it is important to help bring a sense of contemporary relevance to a subject which might seem elaborate and highly theoretical.

I passionately believe that private tutoring not only prepares students for academic exams more thoroughly than other kinds of preparatory work, but it also helps a student connect with a subject in a personal manner that fosters a passion for further learning. By furthering an understanding that academic subjects are an integral part of daily life, students develop a rounded approach to learning that helps improve lateral thinking and promotes an ability to analyse any subject from an original perspective.
