Personal Description:
I’m an experienced and enthusiastic teacher, offering lessons in composition, song-writing, piano and guitar, as well as music production, music technology and music theory.
As an instrumentalist: I hold a Diploma in piano performance from London College of Music, and have taught piano since 2007. I've taught acoustic and electric guitar since 2012, and have played in a variety of originals, function and ceilidh bands over the last decade.
As a composer: I’ve worked with prominent performers and have had work commissioned and selected for events across the UK. I hold a Masters by Research in composition from the University of York, and am very keen to share the knowledge and techniques I’ve picked up along the way! I’ve performed with bands, orchestras and choirs in venues including The British Library, Spirit Studios and The Royal Albert Hall.
Qualifications and awards:
• MA by Research in music (composition), 2020
• BA (Hons) in music (1st class with distinction), 2018
• DipLCM diploma in piano performance (merit), 2010
• Nicola LeFanu Composition Prize, 2019
• William Matthias Composition Prize, 2019
• Chimera Ensemble Undergraduate Commission, 2017
Tutoring Experience:
I’ve had the pleasure of teaching music in a variety of situations over the past thirteen years, working extensively with both individuals and groups of all ages and levels of experience. My firm belief that music is hugely enjoyable - and should be available to everyone - has led me to work with community music groups and schools, as well as giving lessons on a one-to-one basis.
Tutoring Approach:
Whatever you’re in the process of learning, I’d be delighted to help. Lessons are both informal and flexible, usually lasting 30 or 60 minutes. Plenty of styles and genres are covered – from classical music through to rock and pop.
Please note: all tuition will take place online during the pandemic.
