Tutoring Approach:

ABOUT MY TEACHING
After studying with some of the greatest flute players and teachers at the Royal Academy of Music and abroad, it is a great privilege to help my students master their instrument. Mastering the flute is a lifelong journey and I encourage students to work on all aspects of their flute technique to find greater ease and enjoyment in their musical expression.

Part of my teaching is inspired by the Alexander Technique, which has helped many musicians, actors and athletes with injury prevention. For flute playing it especially helps with breathing, tone, resonance, and finger coordination by being more aware of how we use our bodies and inhibiting habits which are less efficient. There are no wrong answers and I seek to positively encourage the student to find their voice and true potential.

I enjoy giving masterclasses in Japan, Canada, USA, UK, and Europe. I hold my own flute retreat each year in the UK and teach at the Integrated Flutist: Vancouver Flute Festival.

I have also written a book of exercises based on the teaching of William Bennett called "Mastering the Flute with William Bennett". This was published by Indiana University Press in 2018. My second book is “7 Daily Vocalises” and is published by Tetractys Publishing. My blog also has some useful tips for flute players!
