Personal Description:

I am primarily a jazz and studio trumpet player who has had the privilege of recording on some very well known recordings. I recorded a solo on US artist Chris Tomlin’s song ‘God’s Great Dance Floor’, on his album ‘Burning Lights’, which peaked at Number 1 on the US Billboard 200, Jan 2013. This won two DOVE awards and was nominated for a GRAMMY award. The spin off cd, which I was also a soloist on reached number four in the same chart a few months later. (Passion; Let the Future Begin).
I have appeared on TV (first aged 15, with Fern Britton, and the ‘Morgana Show’; Channel 4 (2011)
‘V.I.P’ (2012) with my own band playing clips of my tunes ‘Brother Sam’ and ‘Lion’s Den’.
I have recorded with the ‘Cookie Monster’, on a YouTube release for iphone, and have recorded two original studio albums, ‘War in the Saints’ and ‘Lion’s Den’. The latter is just being pressed.
As a pianist I have accompanied many exam students, and was taught by two concert pianists, Dennis Lee and Chee Toh, based in London.
I am a jazz specialist, on both trumpet and piano. I improvise in small groups as my ‘gig of choice’.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught music in various school scenarios around the Midlands since 1999. I was the subject leader of music at George Dixon Academy from 1999-2000, a full time position.
I was also a full time teacher at Shenley Academy from 2000-2003.
I did some supply mixed with peri teaching (Birmingham Music Service and privately), as well as working for Nottingham City Music service from 2008-2010.
I took my next teaching role in 2014-2017 as head of music stationed at Erdington Academy.
I taught at the County High School, Leftwich as a maternity cover music teacher and later at Trentham Academy, for six months, ending in May this year, (2019).

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in helping to inspire effort in each pupil; helping them to love practising and seeing themselves improve as young musicians. I am a believer in a good solid grounding in theory and practical techniques in order to make the act of playing an instrument far easier in the long run.
I see myself as fair but quite strict.
