Information About Raphael - Cheadle teacher

Personal Description:

I am 20 years old and am about to enter my third year studying Engineering at the University of Manchester. I have been actively playing the piano for over ten years. I achieved a merit in ABRSM Grade 8 Piano three years ago and since then have been developing my ability at both performing and composing as a hobby whilst I study. I have a love of many styles of piano but favour the romantics, especially Chopin.

Tutoring Experience:

I love to teach. For me, passing my own skill to someone else is hugely rewarding. I have never been paid to teach piano but have given many free lessons to my friends and family, all of whom have found me a challenging but effective tutor. While studying maths and further maths for A levels, I tutored maths to many younger students at my secondary school. This experience developed my ability to explain tricky ideas and techniques more simply, a skill that is vital for teaching piano. I wish to gain experience tutoring students at different levels of ability and would be happy to offer free taster lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

To improve quickly at a skill such as piano, students require a teacher who can constantly push them. I know from experience that students must learn more technically challenging pieces to keep them outside of their comfort zone. At the same time, learning pieces they enjoy keeps them interested and inspired to practise. I am naturally quite flexible as a tutor and am willing to adjust how I teach to benefit each student, whether they need a sterner or more laid-back style.
