Personal Description:

After graduating from The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in 2001, I became a member of the Opera North Chorus. Alongside the duties of being a full-time chorister, I enjoyed performing many solo and cover roles for the company. In 2018 I became a Singing Teacher for Bedford Girl’s School. During my time at Opera North, as well as being a chorister I enjoyed working with the Opera North Education Department and spent seven years teaching singing for Roundhay Music Service.
In my free time I enjoy walking around the British countryside, working on my allotment, reading and baking. For relaxation I really enjoy crafts especially knitting, crochet and tapestry.

Tutoring Experience:

At Bedford Girl’s School I currently have two morning’s teaching each week. I am also remote teaching some of my Roundhay Music pupils in which I have experience teaching pupils with Asperger’s Syndrome. My pupil’s ages range from 7 years old – adults, and covers all abilities from absolute beginners to post Grade 8 and Music College.
My Opera North Education work gave me experience co-leading workshops in mainstream and SEN schools. I also worked with the Opera North Youth and Children’s Choruses as a Singing Specialist, helping them to establish their vocal techniques. As an Opera North mentor to students from the RNCM, I offered feedback on their auditions and coached them on the inner workings of being a chorister.

Tutoring Approach:

I really enjoy encouraging my pupils to develop their techniques and I’m passionate about helping them to perform and characterise the story within their repertoire. I believe that alongside developing a rounded technique with theoretical understanding, the most important aspect of studying singing is enjoyment at whatever level is achieved. Singing is a skill that will never be lost, it opens up a variety of opportunities and is a great way to express oneself. I am very keen to help students progress and achieve their objectives whilst making learning fun.
