Information About Miles - Glossop teacher

Personal Description:

I was introduced to the clarinet at the age of 7 and it has been a part of my life ever since. I've played in numerous ensembles including youth ensembles, wind bands, orchestras, chamber groups, and also as a soloist. I have a very broad interest in music, from classical right through to jazz and popular music. I play what I enjoy and urge anyone who I teach to do the same.
I am a member of the Alderley Edge Orchestra and the Musical Director of Altrincham Concert Orchestra and Congleton Youth Orchestra.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught clarinet (and theory) for over 15 years. I teach all ages and have taken on beginners still at primary school to adult learners at 70+. I've successfully helped many students work towards and pass graded exams.

Tutoring Approach:

My aim is to introduce my pupils to the world of playing music together. Once we've covered the basics we can play duets/trios and look for ensembles in the local area to play with. I want to make lessons fun and I want the music choices to really inspire to encourage as much home practicing as possible. I try and understand the aims of each student whether this be to learn their favourite piece, play with others, or pass an exam. This means I have to adapt my approach to each individual.
I also have a flexible approach to my lessons. The first lesson is free with no obligation and I can advise on the purchase of your first clarinet if you don't yet have one.
