Personal Description:
I've been working as professional musician for over 20 years and played in venues the length and breadth of the British Isles. I grew up as keen Rock and Metal fan but by my late teens had fallen in love with the Jazz, Blues, Rockabilly and all things traditional. Bluegrass Banjo and Mandolin quickly followed and the stage was set for me to become the multi-instrumentalist in many a great touring band. Happy to approach any style, high level of music theory understanding, happy to teach reading of notation, chart, TAB, no snobbery whatsoever, If you just want to strum some chords, I'm more than happy to draw pictures for you. As long as your enjoying that instrument, then its all good.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught in a number of environments from Primary Schools to GCSE tutoring, advanced instrument mentoring and group tuition. I ran a successful private Music School for ten years.
I have worked with LCM, Rockschool, Trinity College and ABRSM syllabus'. Happy to teach from beginner level to grade 8 on any Electric, Bass or Acoustic instrument. Classical Guitar from Beginner to Grade 5 at which point I believe a specialist in the subject is more helpful although I'm more than happy to approach the higher grades myself.
Banjo, Mandolin and Uke are not really graded by any notable board but again, I'm happy to work with all from beginner upwards.
Tutoring Approach:
Happy to approach any style, high level of music theory understanding. I will teach reading of notation, chart or TAB, no snobbery whatsoever, If you just want to strum some chords, i'm more than happy to draw pictures for you. As long as your enjoying that instrument, then its all good.
More than happy to work within whatever framework you feel works best. I can be strict and bang my pencil on the desk if you think that works or we can relax and take things are your speed. I will always aim to push you towards improvement and knowledge acquisition, but i'll try and make it so don't feel the pain!
