Personal Description:

Kyriakos is an instrumentalist and composer born in 1998 in Larnaka, Cyprus, currently studying and living in the UK. He took his first steps in music education at the age of nine, studying Piano and Music Theory with Georgia Christoforou at the National Conservatory of Larnaka. At the age of fifteen, he started studying Classical Guitar and Advanced Music Theory and Harmony in the Classical Conservatory of Larnaka under the tuition of Marios Pavlou. Currently Second Year Undergraduate Music Student at Royal Holloway University of London, he is focusing on Composition and Performance under the tuition of Matthew Stanley. Kyriakos is also undertaking Contemporary Performance classes under the tuition of Dr. Mary Dullea and Chamber Orchestra classes under the supervision of the Tippet Quartet.

Kyriakos’s passion for his first instrument, the Piano, is indisputable. Except from the aforementioned, he has also attended several Piano masterclasses at Royal College of Music in London, led by Steven Osborne, Read Gainsford and Marios Papadopoulos. Another masterclass that Kyriakos has attended is film scoring with Marios Takoushis.

Kyriakos has also served fourteenth months in the Cyprus Army, more specifically in the Music Department of the National Guard (Σ.Μ.Ε.Φ), where he was part of both the Philharmonic orchestra and the ‘light’ folk orchestra, for which he served as trombonist and pianist respectively. Kyriakos was also a trombonist of the ‘Mesa Yitonia’ Philharmonic Orchestra in Limassol, touring in Cyprus with well-known Greek artists such as Dionisios Savvopoulos and Vassilis Lekkas, as well as part of the ‘Paphos’s Big Band’, playing either the Second or the Third Trombone.

Despite his classical orientation, Kyriakos runs different varieties of music groups in the pop-culture music industry in Cyprus, collaborating with fellow friends-musicians. His musical vocabulary ranges from jazz, blues, rock, soft rock and folk. A songwriter himself, he recorded and produced his debut album, inspired by and writing music for the poems of Evagoras Pallikarides, a national hero and poet. The last five years, Kyriakos has been composing and arranging music for theatrical plays produced by the ‘House of the Artist’, and has collaborated with several actors and producers such as Eirini Xarous.

Tutoring Experience:

Kyriakos has 3+ years of experience in tutoring people of all ages and levels for Piano and Music Theory. He still teaches students when travelling back to Cyprus.

Tutoring Approach:

Music is for all! Kyriakos strongly believes that passion and hard work is what leads a student to a great success. Of course, talent is needed, but the student’s systematic practice is the primary key for each player to be developed musically and also instrumentally. Kyriakos’s approach is personalized, always depending on the age, the student’s goals, and the availability of a student to practice at home. Except from the basic exercises, students are encouraged to express their selves in the lesson, to start developing musical critical thinking and to engage their personalities, feelings, and expressions, and therefore reflect those parameters upon their pieces. Kyriakos aims to provide the necessary tuition which will ultimately lead the students to make their first steps towards the artistic “trip” of finding their own, personal performance style. Student’s goals are always the first priority when teaching music, as each student will have the opportunity to engage with genres of different musical genres, including classical, rock & pop and folk.
