Information About John - Newent teacher

Personal Description:

John began learning the violin at five years of age. In 2002, he led the Incoporated Association of Preparatory Schools National Symphony Orchestra in Snape Maltings Concert Hall and also won the Novello Prize. He has played in the National Schools Symphony Orchestra. John was also a member of the National Youth Orchestra for three years, where he worked with distinguished conductors such as Yan Pascal Tortelier, Takaaki Otaka, Richard Hickox and Sir Colin Davis in a range of venues including the Bridgewater, Barbican and Royal Albert Halls.

John spent two years at the Birmingham Conservatoire Junior Department where he lead the Symphony Orchestra. He was also in the finals of the National Chamber Music Competition.

John has now completed his degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he studied with the internationally renowned violin pedagogue and author Simon Fischer. He has played on tour with the Guildhall Symphony orchestra in Italy and many performances in the Barbican Concert Hall. Recently he has played the Bruch Violin Concerto and other solo pieces such as Zigeunerweisen and Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso with the Cheltenham Philharmonic Orchestra.

As well as standing in for other violin teachers in London schools during his degree and teaching privately John also writes commercial music.

Tutoring Approach:

To best develop pupils technique, I like to teach a mix of exercises, studies, scales and pieces and can prescribe many easy exercises to do this. I strongly believe that technique is central to learning a string instrument and that it can be made fun for any age with the correct approach.
