Personal Description:

I am a professional musician that has enjoyed a hugely varied career from performing as a member of Jeff Lynne's ELO on the 'Wembley or Bust' album as well as at the Hollywood Bowl and Madison Square Gardens to being a session cellist on films including 'Dunkirk' and 'Wonder Woman 2.' I've recorded on albums for Paul Weller and Bjork and appeared in concert with Brian Wilson with my group Q Strings. I also love composing and arranging and have written string arrangements for Ocean Colour Scene and The Specials as well as being co-founder of the 'One stop shop' music production company Brik Hit House who's music has appeared on numerous BBC productions.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching cello, piano and music theory for nearly twenty years as well as enjoying a successful freelance career in music as a performer and composer. I have taught children as young as 4 years old up to adults and in doing this have taught beginner cello through to cello for BA Hons music degree. I have been a visiting professor for Oxford Brookes University helping composition degree students compose for the cello in traditional and more contemporary styles as well as recording their final pieces.
In addition to my private teaching practice I have run string quartet workshops in schools as well as for the London String Quartet Foundation, taught for Herts and Essex Music Services as well as being cello tutor for Essex Young Person's Orchestra.

Tutoring Approach:

I am passionate about music and am always keen to pass on this enthusiasm to my students to help them explore the music that interests them. I tailor lessons to suit the individuals needs and abilities to help them develop to their full potential. I use a range of teaching styles and aim to make lessons fun and interesting whilst helping students learn good technique and the skills necessary to successfully practice on their own.
