Personal Description:

Having amassed a wealth of 30 years experience in performance, teaching, production, songwriting and music technology I am offering a wide range of lessons from beginners to advanced in Electric/Acoustic Guitar, Bass and Technology.
I have performed in small intimate venues right through to the Tokyo Dome (50000). I have a wealth of experience in TV appearances , Video work, Tv and radio interviews, magazine interviews and so much more. I have had the pleasure in seeing quite a few pupils become successful professional players and teachers. I am able to bring all of this side of playing into my teaching. This is the stuff you can not get from a text book. For example, playing at volume under bright lights is a totally different experience to playing at home.
Lessons will be individually tailored to your ability and requirements. It will not be box ticking exercise but rather to develop a true understanding of the tools and information at the required standard.
I can help you prepare for graded exams, GCSE, A Level, IB and Btec Music Technology. Performances, at the student’s choice, can recorded for analysis and self assessment with the aim to refine phrasing, dynamics and overall performance. In my experience recordings do not lie whereas the brain tends to fill in the gaps.
I have excellent facilities to provide this service with a wide range of studio equipment and software. Due to todays ever increasingly busy lifestyle lessons can be arranged in a “as and when required” arrangement. Therefore if you require an hour lesson once per month or half hour per week all needs can be tailored to suit.

Simon Balle Senior School Hertford …… Electric/Bass Guitar

Simon Balle School is a co-educational secondary school, sixth form, and most recently primary school with academy status located in Hertford, Hertfordshire, England. Students up year 13. My role was providing electric guitar and bass lessons on a one to one basis. Styles were mainly in the form of rock, pop, blues, indie and metal.
Tasks were inclusive of preparing pupils with their Gcse/A level solo studies. As a result educational tuition was the primary focus as many were on courses. Similarly those not on courses would express a desire to develop their playing skills. Therefore I would pay close attention to pairing the theoretical and practical aspects of playing so they could consequently run hand in hand.

John Warner Senior School Hoddesdon …… Electric/Acoustic/Bass Guitar

The John Warner School is a secondary school with academy status for 11 to 19 year olds in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. I was teaching both educationally and casually. Private Tuition.

Teaching privately is by far the most flexible method of teaching and learning. As a result I would teach everything that pupils would request. Therefore this would mean helping students with their Gcse coursework, A levels, college course material, degree course assignments and the list goes on. Pupils would range from the ages of 7 – 65. Consequently all have their own reasons for wanting to learn. The skill here is to listen to what their requests would be. Above all then try to formulate a workable method to get them there.

Tutoring Approach:

Music is a very personal experience therefore tuition should respect that idea. Should you wish to learn for fun (casually), educationally or a mixture of the two then that shall be the approach. My job is to direct you through and how to overcome technical obstacles and make sure you know what and how to proceed with a clear mind. Practice takes care of the rest. Practicing the right way is essential. You do not want to get good at doing the wrong thing.
On the other hand if you are studying course material that requires a performance or recording then that is equally as important be it a GCSE A LEVEL DEGREE module Graded exam. My approach is simply to help you meet your goals what ever they may be. Even if they change along the way. Flexibility is key
