Personal Description:
I'm a outgoing and enthusiastic individual with a deep passion for music. I am fortunate to be involved in two original projects, Bare Jams and Dogbowl Productions, which have allowed me to tour the globe with some of the best up-and-coming players the UK has to offer, performing at amazing festivals and venues on a regular basis.
These projects have facilitated the exploration of numerous genres, including Pop, Grime, Jazz, Funk, Reggae, Afrobeat, Drum & Bass, Garage, and more. This has also opened the door to the exploration of sounds through FX pedals, which I find incredibly enjoyable.
I hold a Trinity Guildhall Jazz Grade 8, ABRSM Grade 8 (with distinction), ABRSM Performance Diploma, ABRSM Grade 5 Theory, and a BSc in Music Technology. I strongly believe that having a basic understanding of music technology is essential for musicians, as it plays a significant role in live performances and recording sessions.
With my knowledge and passion, I am dedicated to helping you take your saxophone playing to the next level.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been a freelance teacher for over a decade, offering both one-on-one and classroom instruction. Despite my busy touring and gigging schedule, I make time for private tuition, as I am passionate about helping others develop their musical skills.
If you're looking to build confidence for live performances, I can provide tailored guidance and support. I understand the challenges of performing in front of an audience and can help you work towards overcoming them.
Exploring new sounds through extended techniques and FX pedals is something I find immensely enjoyable. I believe that experimenting with different sounds and effects can greatly enhance your musical expression and creativity as well as improve flexibility on your instrument. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced player, I can help you explore these techniques and incorporate them into your playing style.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to teaching is akin to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Just like going to the gym, learning an instrument is a lifestyle that requires consistent practice and enjoyment. I believe that anyone can learn to play at a level that suits them, and I make this achievable through the philosophy that 'It doesn't take talent to practice.'
I'm always excited to hear what music students listen to and what goals they aim to achieve. I tailor lessons, exercises, and practice routines around their musical tastes, ensuring that they are engaged and motivated to learn.
I prefer to conduct lessons at my home studio, where I have access to recording resources. I believe that recording oneself and listening back is a key element in development, as it allows students to identify areas for improvement and track their progress over time.
