Personal Description:

I have a lifelong passion for music and performance, and I am a graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where I was awarded a First Class Honours Degree for Flute Performance. My passion for flute performance builds the foundation for my teaching practice, and I thoroughly enjoy sharing my experiences with my pupils.

I was awarded a Music Scholarship to Malvern St James School in 2008, and was later awarded a further Sixth Form Scholarship. Whilst studying at Malvern St James, I achieved my Grade 8 Flute with Distinction, aged 14, and my Grace 8 Singing with Distinction in 2014. During my time there, I performed the Chaminade Concertino with the Malvern Sinfonia, and performed the Mozart Flute Concerto in G with the Worcestershire Youth Orchestra, both in 2015.

During Sixth Form, I attended the Birmingham Junior Conservatoire where I played in their Symphony Orchestra and also with the Wind Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall. I achieved my Flute Diploma with Distinction in 2016. I was a member of the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain in 2016 and 2017, where I was Principal Second Flute.

I was awarded a Scholarship to the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama for undergraduate entry in 2016, and in 2020 I graduate with a First Class Honours Degree. In 2019, I was nominated for the Ken Smith Flute Prize and for the Stoutzker Prize in 2020. I have enjoyed participating in many college ensembles such as Chamber Orchestra, Conductors’ Orchestra and as Principal Flute in Wind Orchestra. I have also had the opportunity to play in smaller ensembles such as the Hafren Duo (flute and guitar), the Raglan Wind Quintet and as Principal Flute in the RWC Chamber Winds. I have also benefitted from masterclasses with eminent flautists such as Ian Clarke, Michael Cox and Philippa Davies.

In 2018, I began playing with the CBSO Youth Orchestra, which included concerts at Birmingham Symphony Hall conducted by Michael Seal and Christian Macelaru. This included playing piccolo in Shostakovich’s ‘Leningrad Symphony’ a challenging and exciting performance. I was invited back to play with the CBSO Youth Orchestra Academy, with whom I performed in Birmingham Town Hall in 2019.

Tutoring Experience:

I’m an active flute teacher based in Cardiff, with years of experience. I currently hold a First Class Honours degree from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Flute Performance, as well as a Diploma of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. I have experience teaching a range of ages and abilities, from beginner to advanced, and I strive to make every lesson enjoyable whilst pushing the student to their full potential. I have prepared pupils for successful music examinations. When the government guidelines allow, I can travel to teach the student in their own home, but if you would prefer I can also teach via Zoom! For any enquiries, please send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you!

I am fully DBS checked.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach based on the needs of the individual student and tailor each lesson to them -there is no one size fits all! I am happy to teach both for exam preparation and for those who take their flute playing very seriously, as well as those who just want a fun hobby! My flute teaching reflects the years of learning I have had with some of the most eminent flautists in the country, such as Sarah Newbold and Andrew Lane.
