Personal Description:

Hello, my name is Georgia, I'm a self employed musician working full time as an artist and session musician. This year I received a nomination for the BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award. My main speciality is folk music from the British Isles. I enjoy teaching and during the summer work for a music shop called 'Hobgoblin' selling instruments. I perform every weekend and would like to offer my skills during the week to anyone who would like to pursue learning one of my instruments. You might like to know I have grade 8 vocals, grade 8 piano, grade 5 theory, grade 4 recorder and I received a first for my degree in Music from Sussex University.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching privately off and on for the last 16 years. I first started teaching recorder when I was 12 and later taught piano while at university. I've gone on to specialise in other instruments; vocals, accordion and whistles. All three I have taught both at my home, at that of the students, and at festivals including; Ely, Warwick, Bromyard and Cambridge Folk Festivals. I've also lectured at Brighton Institute of Modern Music.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very passionate about music, my musical tastes are very broad. I have always wanted to be a musician and I enjoy teaching what I am passionate about. My parents are both teachers and this is probably why I feel teaching comes naturally to me. I feel it is important to be experienced, patient and both able to explain clearly and to be able to break things down till the student is able to better themselves. Most teachers shy away from good constructive feedback. I feel that with feedback we are able to advance quicker and it becomes more enjoyable!
