Personal Description:

ONLINE LESSONS AVAILABLE!

Emma is a professional freelance saxophonist and music teacher based in the West Midlands.
Having graduated with a master’s degree in music from the University of Hull in 2018, Emma has been working in the music industry as a professional saxophonist since. She has toured extensively throughout the UK and internationally as a multi-instrumentalist with theatre shows, musicals, function bands, and as a soloist for summer residencies, festivals, clubs, events, and weddings.

Tutoring Experience:

Emma has been teaching privately for 3+ years and has recently begun working within secondary schools teaching saxophone, clarinet, flute, and music theory. She is comfortable teaching and helping students progress through both ABRSM and Trinity College London exam boards, from grade 1 to grade 8 (in both Classical and Jazz). Emma has experience teaching all ages and abilities.

Tutoring Approach:

Emma's aim is to motivate and inspire fellow musicians to fulfill their goals, ambitions and to find enjoyment from making music. Each lesson will be relaxed and personally tailored to the individual and their goals/abilities - whether this is working your way through the graded system and reaching grade 8 or even just for the enjoyment of playing and making music (there will be no pressure in the lessons as each musical journey is different). Emma strives to deliver a vast range of instrumental knowledge across all woodwinds, music theory, and musical interpretation to help enhance the students' musical understanding and performance skills. She is a keen learner herself and will go above and beyond to research areas of interest to you.

Lesson topics may include:
- Understanding musical notation (notes, articulations, dynamics, etc.)
- Tone production (embouchure, breathing, posture, support)
- Scales, sight-reading, music theory, and playing by ear
- Working on exam material
- Learning and working on pieces/songs/solos
- Improvisation
- Extended techniques (double tonguing, growling, altissimo, etc.)
- Woodwind doubling
- Performance techniques

Genres
Emma is accomplished in teaching a wide variety of genres including classical, jazz, pop, dance/house, and soul. Having begun her musical journey as a classically trained saxophonist, Emma then went on to pursue jazz and pop music in higher education developing her musical knowledge and understanding for performing across different genres.
