Personal Description:

I am 19 years old, and I'm a second year philosophy student at University College London, looking to do some teaching work. Music has been my passion for my whole life - singing in the Hampton Court Palace Chapel Royal Choir for 6 years (age 8-14), learning the violin, guitar and piano from a young age, singing in the National Youth Choir, and performing in some very cool places (including the Albert Hall with a group of 4 for the Music For Youth Proms). In my final year of school I completed my violin diploma (ARSM) with distinction, my piano grade 8 (with merit) and I have spent my whole life singing both at school and in professional environments (weddings, recordings, tv). I've also been playing guitar from a very young age more casually (though I did do up to grade 5 classical guitar), and now I love to write and play songs. Having done A level music (achieving A*) and grade 5 theory (distinction) I am also equipped to teach theory up to grade 4.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught violin, guitar and music theory to children of family friends during the holidays. Since last year was my first year of university I didn't have much time for a job, but now that I'm in my second year I'm hoping to get lots of teaching experience under my belt.

Tutoring Approach:

I want to make sure to ensure my pupils are always engaged and enjoying playing the music, as this is what I know will help them to actually practice and want to improve. As someone that knows how difficult learning and practicing musical instruments can sometimes be, I am an understanding teacher, and I would never want a pupil to feel anxious or worried about my lessons (as someone who has felt this many many times if I've had a week where I've not practiced enough). Having said that, I certainly want to get the most out of my pupils, and will push them if I think they're not giving it their best shot. Ultimately, I want my pupils to enjoy playing and discovering new music, while learning how to play an instrument to a level they can be proud of achieving.
