Personal Description:

Hi! My name's Chris, and I'm a singing teacher based in the West Midlands. I've been singing for as long as I can remember, from amateur youth group shows to professional musical theatre workshops and sold-out live gigs. My background is largely in a musical theatre genre but I regularly perform jazz now, and am also proficient in contemporary styles. In addition, I had three years of lessons in classical singing during my time at university, which was a real eye-opener in terms of vocal technique and how to cross genres and styles. I consider myself an enthusiastic, positive tutor who loves imparting my experience and knowledge on to other eager and motivated students.

Tutoring Experience:

I've been working as a freelance singing teacher since April 2018, but have experience of educating and encouraging young performers going back to 2012 and earlier. Much of my student-base has been children and young adults, as I volunteer as a musical director of a youth theatre group and so have plenty of experience of how to encourage and develop young singing voices through a difficult time for the voice. It is important to coach youngsters (particularly young males) to use their evolving voice in healthy and sustainable ways, and through my own experience and through working with young singers for the past seven plus years, I have gathered plenty of knowledge and understanding of how to guide students through this time. But I also have a number of older students on my books, too. Singing is for everyone, and you're never too old to take up a new hobby or revisit some basic skills.

Tutoring Approach:

I pride myself on my down-to-earth, approachable style and individually-tailored lessons. Singing should be fun above all else, and I hope to instil and nurture that philosophy in all my students, as it is also through this approach that the most progress is made. Everybody has a voice inside them, and helping somebody to discover it is the most rewarding feeling I know. After a thorough warm-up, we explore a few vocal exercises, specifically picked out to aid the student's particular vocal goals, before getting to grips with a full song.
