Personal Description:

My name is Charlotte, I'm a professional classical singer and teacher living in Manchester. I have just completed my Masters in Voice and Opera at the Royal Norther College of Music. I also hold a DipABRSM in singing and a PGDip in Voice and Opera studies. I'm an active performer on stage and in concerts, and sing a range of opera, song, musical theatre and cabaret music. I also have theatre training with a LAMDA grade 8 Gold Medal. I have Grade 8 in Piano and accompany a number of my pupils for exams and concerts.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught singing at Loreto Sixth Form College for the past 5 years, with pupils gaining distinction in high grade ABRSM exams, as well as success in Trinity and LCM musical theatre exams. I have also previously taught the boy choristers at Blackburn Cathedral, boy and girl choristers at Bury Parish Church, and coached on National Youth Choir courses. I already have a number of private pupils ranging from young children to pupils in their 60's.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to provide a relaxed, engaging and collaborative lesson environment for each individual. The priority at the start is to establish what you want from your lessons, whether it be simply for fun and to gain confidence, to prepare for a specific event, or to develop your technique and pursue your performing further. Singing lessons can benefit anyone who has to speak publicly, use their voice at work or in their hobbies, and I always aim to tailor my teaching to the pupils needs.

I teach a wide range of styles, from pop music, gospel and jazz, to classical, opera, folk and choral. I have specific training in musical theatre, classical/opera and choral, and pride myself on my versatility in performance and teaching. I am comfortable and experiences teaching both male and female voices, and have experience working with changing boys voices as well.

One thing I prioritise in my teaching is the importance of vocal health, and singing healthily in a way that you can maintain without doing any damage or experiencing vocal fatigue. I have worked with pupils who have come to me with vocal issues and we have successfully worked through them.

I have worked with people who have no previous musical knowledge or experience, and those who have no ability to read music. I'm happy to teach aurally, and also happy to develop a pupils musical skills and theory if they want to.

I am also experienced helping develop sight reading ability and technique, and build confidence reading music.

Ultimately the most important thing is to enjoy singing, and have confidence to use and express your voice in whichever way you wish. I like to get to know my pupils as people as well as singers, and build a trust and open environment in the lessons.
