Personal Description:
My name is Boris, I am a Professional Piano teacher, and have been teaching beginner and intermediate Piano to students for 6 years.
I have been classically trained in the ABRSM system (grade 8), and have studied a wide variety of musical styles ranging from classical to rock, to jazz, to electronica through my Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Concordia.
I am currently a Masters student in electronic music production, and am required to maintain a strong knowledge of music theory, music composition, improvisation, piano performance, and electronic music production. I am fluent in three languages including French, English and Italian, and am ready to give lessons in any of them. I am based around Acton, but am more than willing to travel.
I work in a professional recording studio and work on projects for Netflix, Capcom, Riot etc… I can assure a high standard of professionalism.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching piano independently for approximately 6 years. I teach a wide range of ages from 4 to 60 years old. I am patient and work mostly with beginner and intermediate students.
I have been teaching music theory for 4 years at :La petite ecole de jeunesse" (Montreal, Canada), including harmony, counterpoint, composition, and aural perception.
In addition I have been producing electronic music for 7 years and currently have access to big music studios fully equipped with all types of mics (condenser, dynamic, ribbon etc.) and analog gear.
Tutoring Approach:
My philosophy in teaching is to create a good environment and relationship with my students. I find it easier to transmit my passion when both the student and I enjoy the lessons. I never over-pressure the students and find that students will work harder on their own when they are studying a piece they truly enjoy. Coincidentally, I am very open to many styles of music (Blues, Classical, Romantic, Baroque, Contemporary, Atonal, Jazz, Funk, Electronic, Pop) which makes it easy to find common ground with my students.
Students are often led to believe that Piano playing is a lot like writing on a typewriter, and as a result they are taught at a young age to hit the piano like robots, lifeless and without emotions. My approach is to convey a proper technical pianistic basis so that students will put their heart and soul into every note they play!
