Personal Description:

Enjoy online singing lessons! My name is Alicia and I am a soprano from New Zealand. I am a friendly, bubbly person with a passion for music, especially singing! I have just completed my Masters in singing at the Royal Northern College of Music and will be returning this year to study for an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma. My background includes playing piano, clarinet and violin, and participating in numerous orchestras, bands and choirs whilst growing up. I have a mainly classical background and went on to complete a Bachelor of Music and PgDip at the New Zealand School of Music where I decided to focus on opera. Since then, I have been in many operatic productions, both here and in NZ. However, I love musical theatre and jazz, and am open to teaching any age, ability and style! I have extensive performance and teaching experience and want to help you reach your goals and gain confidence in your voice!

Tutoring Experience:

I have over 7 years teaching experience. I have taught singing, piano and clarinet privately and also have experience as a music teacher in a primary school, leading choirs and orchestras. I completed a pedagogy course during my BMus, and have experience teaching a wide range of ages and abilities. I have been giving online singing lessons over lockdown and students are still able to enjoy their lessons and improve even though we are not in the same room.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning music should be enjoyable. I try to create an open, comfortable atmosphere during lessons where students feel safe and able to experiment with their voice. Every voice is different and unique and I endeavour to tailor lessons to suit you, and your unique challenges and goals. I believe singing technique is important to help you reach your potential and gain confidence but also, I want to make sure that you enjoy your lessons, so I will always work with you on songs you want to sing.
