Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic, patient and approachable person who has a passion for musical education, and all the positive skills music brings to an individual.
Having been taught from the age of 9 years old in a brass band community, I found I really enjoyed jazz music and attended the Royal Academy of Music Junior Jazz program receiving tuition from Gareth Lochrane, Kenny Wheeler and Dave Douglas. After this period I played at the National Youth Jazz orchestra and worked on various Derbyshire Jazz Council commissions. Whilst at university, I played in the auditioned university bigband having the fortune to solo and work with Stan Sultzman, Bobby Shew and Mark Lockheart.
I currently play professionally across the UK, most notably as part of the the DJ-Brass Trio 'Keep Off The Brass', who are playing residencies at Marco Pierre White steakhouse's in the UK, and at international events in Cyprus and Madrid.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught across Derbyshire for the past 4 years, during my undergraduate and postgraduate studies. My students ranged from 8-year-old beginners to 70-year-old advanced players, and everything in-between. I have recently moved to the South London Area and so I'm looking to carry on with my teaching here.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that music is empowering and should be an opportunity available to all. I myself have experienced first-hand what musical education can bring to both an individuals working and social life. Therefore, I make every lesson a positive and fun session inspiring confidence with the instrument, through diverse exercises and a wide repertoire of pieces. I also enjoy starting to introduce small amounts of jazz influences alongside classical tuition as I believe this is both enjoyable and enriching for any aspiring and developing trumpet player.
