Personal Description:
I am a qualified music teacher with 20 years experience of teaching in a variety of settings including in my home and in schools. I am conscientious and reliable. I’m able to teach a variety of musical styles including classical, jazz and improvisation. I have good theory skills but also good ear skills and can teach students to play by ear as well as from written music. I’m able to plan lessons and to use a variety of teaching techniques to keep my students engaged.
I teach piano and all brass instruments.
I have entered a great many students for grade exams, both ABSRSM and Trinity and have 100% pass rate.
I have a caring approach where I adapt my teaching to the needs of each student. I also have a clear understanding of current safeguarding regulations, having completed regular training sessions. I have a current DBS certificate.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching in schools and privately in my home for over 20 years.
I currently teach piano and brass in a local secondary school.
I teach all ages from young children to adults.
Tutoring Approach:
My aim is to encourage and inspire my students and to equip them with lifelong skills to be able to make progress independently.
I help students to understand theory and to develop aural skills, and to develop healthy practice habits.
I aim to make music enjoyable and I like students to follow their musical interests.
I help students to set helpful goals, whether they be performing for others, grade exams or other targets.
