Personal Description:
I am a native speaker. I am from Japan (Kyoto) and have been living in UK for last 20 years. I have a degree in English Literature in Japan. In Japan, I am a qualified teacher to teach English at the secondary school. I taught English at the private language school in Japan. In UK, previously I worked mainly as a translator until I started teaching Japanese. I am the mother of one child.
Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching Japanese to the secondary students and adult students last 8 years. Depending on a student's objective and style of learning, I choose the most appropriate textbook from Japanese for Busy People series, Minna no Nihongo, Genki, Marugoto and also textbooks for Japanese Language Proficiency Test. I have access to materials which is not easy to get in UK.
In addition to priva**Contact Detail Removed**ssons, I have taught bilingual Japanese children. Also I ran a Japanese course at a Japanese company for last few years. I often participate trainings held at Japan Foundation in London to update my knowledge and skills.
Teaching Approach:
Each students has a different purpose, style of learning and expectation. I always structure my lesson based on an individual needs. I make my own materials (exercise, reading and writing tasks, etc.), use a lot of visual aids, cards, pictures and incorporate an interesting episode about Japan. I often make my student laugh, amuse with things in Japan so that they will not lose an interest because sometimes leering a language so different form European languages is difficult!

From George (/5): Yukiko Sensei has helped me a lot on my Japanese Grammar, her lessons are relaxed and fun, which really helps to create a good learning environment. Lessons don't simply involve going through a textbook but can be tailored to your requirements.

From Yuko (/5): I chose Yukiko as my daughter's Japanese Tutor through this website. I specifically requested for the lessons in person as my daughter is only 5 years old, and she agreed to do that, so I paid for an introduction fee. She also requested we purchase the Japanese textbook to use for the lesson, this was at a cost of JPY 3,929 (approx 25 pounds).
We planned to have a trial lesson in mid-July, but just before that date, she suddenly changed her mind & refused to have lessons for my daughter in person as the covid cases were rising . So we decided to wait and see the situation.
Now it's late September and despite all the covid rules ending in mid-July, she still didn't want to give me a positive answer. I understand that people have different feelings towards covid, but we cannot keep waiting forever for someone who's not willing to give lessons for my daughter. The last thing I want is to delay my daughter's learning any more, so I had no choice but to think she was not meant to be my daughter's first Japanese tutor.
She has apologised and we understand that this was not what she expected either, but the fact is that we only lost money and time and there was nothing to gain for us by choosing her.
I have explained what happened to this website & they requested me to leave feedback for her & explain the issue, so that at least I could get the right to replace the tutor, so that's why I am writing here.

From Alla (/5): My husmand and me were going to Japan and decided to take a few lessons to be able to say at least a few words. Yukiko San kindly agreed to help us. Her lessons were very efficient and thorough. We got a grasp of Japanese grammar and basic speaking Japanese in just eight lessons. She was very enthusiastic, patient and tried to give more than was expected. She also provided us with information what to visit in Kyoto and where these places of interest were. Overall, we were very happy with her approach and highly recommend her to everyone else. Also we decided to continue with Japanese and see how it goes.

When I messaged her she responded in a very timely manner and was so accommodating, the first time I meet her she was so bubbly and friendly, she made me feel so welcome and comfy.
The lesson that followed was perfectly paced, she was so patient, which for a total beginner was amazing and explained everything in a very understandable manner far more than any book could.
Offering excellent information on local culture and a offering a perfect environment for further questions on anything Japanese.
I would thoroughly recommend her to anyone looking to learn Japanese.

Although the language teaching is excellent, I also enjoy conversing about all aspects of Japanese life and culture, both of which she is extremely knowledgeable. She is always more than willing give up her own time to answer any questions I have. She is currently lending me a book about Japanese culture!
