Personal Description:

Hello! My name is Yao. I'm a native Mandarin speaker, and I've been living in London for nearly 7 years. I went to a foreign language school in China for 6 years, and I studied Film and Media at Universities in London. I was a top student for Chinese class in my primary and secondary school. Now I'm an aspiring screenwriter both in English and Chinese. I like meeting new people and help them learn my language. You'll also find me very easygoing, reliable, patient and friendly.

Teaching Experience:

I come from a family with lots of teachers, and I used to be my mother's (a dance teacher) teaching assistant for years. I taught Mandarin and English for a month in a local school in Rabat, Morocco in 2015. And I also used to teach an English friend basic mandarin. I know how to effectively teach and communicate with both children and adult students.

Teaching Approach:

A language is ultimately a tool for communication. Hence, speaking is the most important part. I would constantly encourage my student to listen, to speak and to imitate. For intermediate or advanced students, I would also recommend them mandarin animations, podcasts, TV programmes and films. Culture and environment are very essential elements to improve the language, that's how I learned English. I'd also use different teaching materials with different students according to their preference, needs and abilities.
