Information About Wei-Yen - Nailsea teacher

Personal Description:

I am a trained interpreter (English/Chinese), a professional translator for publications and an English/Chinese teacher.
Education - MA in Translation Studies at the University of Portsmouth.
Following the marriage with my British husband in 2005, we now have two almost teenage sons. We moved to the UK from Taiwan on April 7th 2019, and now live in the South West of England.

Co-owner (with my husband), teacher and administrator of Matt’s English School.
Following marriage to my British husband, we jointly opened Matt’s English school. The school now has over two hundred part-time pupils between the ages of eight and fourteen. The school has consistently achieved a 100% pass rate by all pupils in Cambridge KET (Council of Europe A2) by the age of thirteen with over 75% achieving Cambridge PET (Council of Europe B1) by the same age.
My most important role in the school is that of administrator. I am responsible for communication with parents – a role in which strong communication skills are required and the ability to demonstrate strength and trust.
Teaching is the area that I spend the greatest proportion of my time on. While the majority of classroom teaching is taught by my husband, we must be able to co-operate and exchange roles seamlessly. However, most of my teaching involves helping pupils outside of the main classroom environment.
My duties also include the employment and supervising of all teaching assistants.

Teaching Approach:

Traditional Chinese.
Oral practice - focus on pronunciation (introducing and learning "Bopomofo" - phonetics ) / Writing practice - focus on stroke order (Chinese character writing system )
Explanatory - Syntax / Practical - conversation / Culture Specific items - culture differences between Chinese culture and English culture.
