Personal Description:

My name is Vassilis and I was born and raised in Greece. I've been living in Manchester for just over 4 years, working as a supply teacher in secondary schools, an interpreter in the health sector and a musician with a rock covers band in the weekends.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Sport Science and have been awarded with the Qualified Teacher Status in England (QTS) by the National College for Teaching and Leadership.

I am a pleasant, easy-going person, but I see teaching as an extremely responsible role, therefore I take every assignment very seriously. I will make every effort to tailor the lessons around your needs, hoping to make them both interesting and fun for you. Don't hesitate to get in touch, if you're interested in learning Greek the right way, whatever the level or purpose.

Teaching Experience:

Although I haven't taught Greek to speakers of other languages before, as I have spent most of my life in my home country, I am an experienced and confident teacher, who will make sure the lessons will be of a high standard. As my teaching experience has been versatile over the last 10 years, spanning from teaching in formal education settings - such as schools and colleges - to sport coaching and small group tutoring, I have acquired a great deal of experience in teaching various age groups from primary years to adulthood. This flexibility has allowed me to continuously assess my teaching strategies and implement successful elements from across all these different stages where applicable.

In any case, I believe that being a native speaker offers a massive advantage on its own for all potential learners, but when this fact can be also combined with positive teaching experience and with student-led, forward-thinking methodologies as well as the passion for teaching, then you are looking at all the attributes you would seek in an ideal language tutor.

Teaching Approach:

I am convinced there are no formulas for succesful teaching, as every case is unique and has to be dealt with accordingly. Therefore, differentiation has been in the centre of my teaching methodology, as well as cross-curricular, integrated learning. I also strongly encourage dialogue and free expression and emphasise on planning based on the students needs and interests. I have a keen attention to detail and a calm teaching approach, characterised by patience, humour, motivation and rewarding. Finally, I promote the use of authentic sources that go beyond textbooks.
