Born just outside London, I am a native English speaker and have lived in the UK my entire life. I have always held a fascination for the English Language, excelling at both GCSE and A-level, before studying Creative Writing at London Metropolitan University. I am a qualified English Teacher, having completed the Cambridge English Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) at International House London, in which I attained the highest grade.
I have gained much experience in tutoring students of many different nationalities, all over the world. I have worked as both a private teacher and in Language Schools, teaching students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. I have continued to develop my skills by studying further courses, covering teaching English for business, working with children, and giving pronunciation classes. In my spare time I am a writer.
My approach is incredibly adaptive; some students will guide their own classes, others will take guidance from me. Learning can be informal (talking together), or formal (following a course). I provide handouts for all my students, and can advise on further study to be completed at home, as well as supplementary resources such as apps, websites, books, films, and podcasts.
I teach English at all levels, working with complete beginners to advanced students. I can tailor classes to meet students' specific needs; whether it be studying purely for fun, for business, improving pronunciation, or studying for exams (such as IELTS).
The key to all my classes is that they must be enjoyable. In our classes we will read current magazine and newspaper articles, and listen to radio programmes and podcasts. This provides opportunities for discussion, and is a great way of getting students to use the language they are learning - particularly when we focus on topics in which the student has an interest. We then look together at the meaning, pronunciation, grammar, and context of the language we are using. To aid the learning process, all classes go at the pace with which the student is most comfortable.
I have a selection of course books to work from; however, students are welcome to bring their own course book if they prefer.
Lessons take place in my private studio in Central London (Lancaster Gate, 10 minutes from Oxford Street), but I can also travel within Zone 1 and to Battersea/Clapham for a small fee. We can meet at the student's home, or else in quiet spaces, such as libraries or community centres.
