This is how 2 referees rated Tamara:
I am a teacher of Spanish from Madrid with nine years of experience. I am currently living in Bath as my husband was offered a job at University of Bath.
I studied Hispanic Philology and I did a MA in Spanish Language. I am writing my PhD focus on the field of teaching Spanish as a second language.
I have been working as a teacher of Spanish Language and Literature in different academic sectors from 2005, so I have experience on working in different academic systems and with various profiles of students. Specifically I taught Spanish Language and Literature for three years in a high quality school in Warsaw (José Martí), Poland, thanks to an agreement between the Spanish Government and some bilingual schools of countries in East Europe. I also taught Spanish at Eton College, UK, therefore I am very familiar with the education system in UK.
At José Martí I also was the coordinator of Spanish, which means that I carried out functions of coordination, communication and implementation of joint projects between the school and the Ministry of Education of Spain.
During my years in Poland I also taught Spanish at Cervantes Institute of Warsaw.
I worked in different research projects under the supervision of Dr. Alberto Anula Rebollo. At that time, besides the researching tasks, I organized some literature workshop with texts that were adapted for students of Spanish from the collection “Fácil lectura”, Sgel. I am the author of two books of that collection: Leyendas, by Bécquer, and Doña Bárbara, by Rómulo Gallegos.
I base my lessons on the communicative approach. However, I sincerely believe that exercises from the structural approach are essential in order to systematize the use of the language. We have to be aware that a second language is not assimilated by our brain in the same way that the native tongue. Therefore, I use to do activities intended to speak and listen at class and to send as homework activities that help to understand and integrate the Spanish grammar structure and vocabulary.
