Personal Description:
I am a freelance translator, with an MA in Literary Translation obtained from Exeter University in 2008. I originally graduated in Spanish and German from Kent University in 2002, after which I worked for some time in London as a PA at the Chartered Institute of Linguists. I love anything to do with language(s) and would like to continue to my involvement in education.
Teaching Experience:
In 2002 I spent one year teaching English in Spain, and for the next three years I worked as a Saturday morning Spanish teacher for children aged 5-11. Alongside my primary role as a translator, since 2006 I have offered occasional private tuition in Spanish (at GCSE and beginner level), English as a Foreign Language and GCSE English (literature & language). I would like to emphasise that I am not a qualified teacher and have not had any formal training in teaching, but I have nonetheless gained some very nice feedback.
Teaching Approach:
After the tutee lets me know what areas he/she would prefer to work on, I can prepare some relevant material and build on that. I am keen to let pupils work at their own pace and not feel overloaded with information, although it is also important to feel challenged. Particularly for children's lessons, I would be using games and pictures. I aim for lessons to be relaxed yet productive, and above all try my best to ensure that pupils feel comfortable and encouraged, and not awkward about making mistakes.

She is a very competent and experienced tutor. She is also considerate and kind so my sons like Sophie very much and always look forward to seeing her. I think it is very lucky for them to meet her as their first tutor in the UK. With her help, they could get accustomed to new life in the UK. I recommend her for your tutor!!!
Thank you so much for your comments; I'm really touched. :) It was a great tutoring experience for me as well, and I'm just so pleased that T did well at school and actually enjoyed learning the language in the process. He worked very hard by himself and deserved to do well! Wishing you both all the best. :)
Sophie is easy to contact by email and has been flexible when it has been necessary to change the date of seesions. I would not hestitate to recommend her for GCSE German tuition.
