Personal Description:

Ciao. My name is Sandro. I have recently moved from Italy to the UK. I was a Manager in the Health Field for 10 years. I have a degree in Economics and have a Master both in Marketing and Communication and Statistics as well as a professional course for an Executive Director. While I’m here in the UK, I thought it would be nice for anyone who is interested in learning Italian and learning about the Italian culture. We can talk about several topics no matter what your level is. I’m also a volunteer clown for local hospitals so take your red nose and let’s go!!!

Teaching Experience:

To be honest I don’t have a lot of experience as a Professional teacher per se however, when I was a University student I taught math and statistics and computer science, Italian and French and history including teaching my 11 year old niece. I taught both doctors and nurses for 10 years on the use of a digital software program for the hospital. So I know very well the process of learning.

Teaching Approach:

My approach to studying has always been to understand the reason why and how things work. It’s the same with languages. We have to understand the origin of words. For example, the nouns in Italian have a male and female gender. Recently a friend of mine who was an English teacher in Italy asked why the word for “table” is both female (tavola) and male (tavolo). To know the word’s origin and the related gender is a good way to understand the language and the people who speak it.”
The gender of the Italian words very often depends on the gender of the people who used the objects or of the place they use the object. Using that example of the word “Tavolo” (table) is male because in the past they used it as a work table (work station) for manual work, typically a man’s prerogative whereas “Tavola” (table) is female because it meant a table in the kitchen where the woman was a Queen—where she cooked. Of course, as in all languages there are many exceptions.
My approach consists of one-on-one study sessions or whatever works for you. We can also speak with some Italian friends who will be happy to speak Italian with you. It will be like being in Italy but not moving from England.
