Information About Penny - Holywell teacher - (1 review)
This is how 3 referees rated Penny:
I am an unusual teacher of Mandarin as I am not Chinese, but a native English speaker. I graduated in Oriental Studies (Chinese) from Durham University and went on to use my Mandarin language in business for over 10 years both in the UK (export trading) and in China and Hong Kong where I worked for several years.
I worked for the government for several years introducing China as a new market for British businesses, and I am well qualified to teach about doing business in China, as well as the language necessary to make a good first impression.
I have been teaching Chinese for 9 years and am a qualified teacher for secondary school. Because I had to learn Chinese from scratch myself, I have a very good understanding of what things are easy or difficult about learning the language, and I can explain the language in a way which is both understandable and completely relevant for a learner of Mandarin.
I teach Mandarin to GCSE level at 2 state schools, one in North Wales and the other on the Wirral. I have also tutored pupils privately, both for school exams and bespoke individual short courses for business purposes.
I like to tailor lessons to individuals or small groups of pupils. If they wish to take a qualification, I will find something suitable for them and teach accordingly. Alternatively I will take into account the student's precise needs and design lesson plans around them. I like to use technology for listening, playing games and watching videos. When you consider how far China is from Britain, we are lucky to have some excellent online resources to get plenty of practise listening to and reading Chinese, which makes the learning process much more fun and meaningful.

The lessons are held in a friendly and patient manner that supports the learning of the subject matter, also they proceed at a pace that I find sustainable.
