Personal Description:

I am an experienced, motivated MFL teacher.I studied at Manchester University and have a degree in German with French and a PGCE in Languages. I can also now teach Spanish to GCSE level.I'Â’ve always loved learning languages, not just for the languages themselves but also as a way to learn about the culture, music, food and people. I am confident that I pass on this enthusiasm to pupils. I love reading, travel and film and I adore living in Cumbria.
I am reliable, flexible, well-organised, easy to get on with, and friendly!
I live half of my time in Penrith and half in St Annes at the moment.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked as a teacher of Modern Foreign Languages at secondary level for over 25 years.
I also have experience of 1-1 and small group tutoring.
Tutoring, either individual or as a group is available for:
primary and secondary pupils (remember languages will be required from 2014 at primary school and for the new e-bac qualification!)
total beginners
those who have learned some French/German before and who want to brush up before travel
intermediate and advanced learners who want to practise conversation
businesses
Tutoring can be short or longer-term, to prepare for a trip or exams, for example.
I am also happy to take on translation work

Teaching Approach:

I am committed to making the learning of languages a thoroughly fun and enjoyable experience.
I use the communicative language teaching approach and classes are always tailored to focus on the individual's needs, requirements and capabilities. This approach places great emphasis on helping students use the target language in a variety of contexts and allows the individual to communicate as much as possible during the lesson whilst building up confidence. My classes are fun and engaging and I use a lot of visual material and props which helps keep interest and motivation high. My younger pupils would tell you that I like to play learning games, and they also enjoy my sense of humour and willingness to have fun in the classroom! I focus on improving the four main skills of language learning: speaking, writing, listening and reading. Above all, the needs of the learner are paramount in my aims and planning.
Teaching materials are provided.
I am happy to tutor at home or come to you, or to meet in a mutually convenient location. I am always happy to meet with potential tutees where necessary before embarking on a tutoring programme. Additionally, once I have begun to work with tutees, I am easily contactable by e-mail or phone if it is necessary to re-arrange appointments or to discuss progress, planning or other matters.
