I am a professional tutor who has been helping students with languages (English, Italian and Japanese), academic writing and Japanese studies since 2010. I have worked with students both on a one to one basis and in groups.
I have obtained a BA in Japanese Language and Culture, an MA in Japanese Language and Politics, and an MA in Crime, Law and Society. Currently I am a final year PhD Candidate conducting research on Japanese criminal law. I have been tutoring privately since my first MA, and between 2013 and 2015 I worked as an English teacher in a private school in Japan. Therefore, I have plenty of teaching experience both with children and adults. I have always enjoyed teaching, and that is why I not only wish to work as a tutor while studying for my PhD, but also thereafter.
I teach three languages: English, Italian and Japanese. I have studied English and Japanese for many years and I have completed my University education between the UK and Japan, therefore I am fully fluent in both languages. As a native Italian speaker, I know the difficulties that students often face when pursuing studies in these two languages, and therefore I am ready to quickly individuate the student's shortcomings. Being Italian, I also tutor Italian and have had a great deal of experience (both in the UK and in Japan) of tutoring those who are studying it as a foreign language.
As for academic-related tutoring, I have worked with University students helping them with essays, dissertations and general polishing up of work principally related to Japanese studies and Law. With my help, students have performed consistently and received excellent grades (distinctions and above).
I believe that my excellent communication skills and solid academic background enable me to be an effective tutor within my subject fields. I am often praised for my knowledge beyond the requirements of the various specifications which has helped to give my older students more context than they are able to receive within the classroom. I am very approachable, focused and passionate about my tutoring and my strong rapport with my students is attested to through the feedback that I have received during the years.
I am a firm believer in viewing things from the students perspective and so my empathetic approach has led to my students achieving grades higher than they had been predicted in virtually all cases. I strongly believe in my teaching abilities and have a great deal of experience working with all ages and levels. My teaching methods are very flexible as I feel that catering to the individual student's learning style is paramount. In order to promote maximum concentration and engagement, I always vary activities during lessons and endeavour to make my students feel at ease, especially when confidence is low.
My academic expertise coupled with my recognition of the nuanced needs of each student makes me an excellent choice for you or your child. My approach to tutoring is adapted to suit the needs and requirements of the individual. Tutoring sessions are varied and include learning, note taking, revision, discussion, exam technique and test questions. These are tailored to the individual student.
I always push my students to reach the full height of their potential and it is this continual focus on improving which leads to my students outperforming their expectations and achieving consistently high top results.
