Information About Martha - Sheffield teacher

Personal Description:

I am a medical doctor living in Sheffield, UK. I was born in Canada and grew up in Taiwan and so Mandarin and English are both my first languages. I was awarded a score of 8 for my IELTS English exam. I have had 6 years experience teaching English in an international language institute in Taiwan. I then went on to study at medical school in Latvia, before moving to the UK to practice medicine. I have a great passion for teaching and have a lot of experience teaching moral classes and running social projects for children and youth in my neighbourhood. I love flower-arranging, painting and watching sit-coms in my free time.

Teaching Experience:

6 years teaching English at International Language Institute in Taitung, Taiwan.

Teaching Approach:

I teach traditional Mandarin, adapted to the ability of the student. I make sure to focus on the needs of each individual student and try to nurture in them a love for languages. I have a strong belief that each child has their own unique capacities and qualities, and in teaching languages it is important to encourage these and build on their strengths. Materials used will not only improve the student's language skills but also help them develop a world-encompassing outlook on life.
