Personal Description:

Online Spanish lessons! I’m Marina Sanchez and I’m from Spain. I finished my Masters degree in cello performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and I'm now currently working for El Sistema as a music teacher plus doing a PhD at the RCS in partnership with St Andrews University.
I spent my final year as an Erasmus student in Glasgow, which gave me the opportunity to get to know different people who shared their experiences and allowed me to view things from a different perspective. I was then able to develop my speaking abilities, continue learning English, and to grow as a musician.
It would be of great interest to me to discover different ways of learning languages and expressing myself in another language and also to investigate my possibilities for the professional future.
I have a great passion for languages. I have taken several English exams and I’m still continuing to improve so that I will one day be able to achieve a high level of fluency. I have the ADVANCED (C1) certificate of Cambridge and IELTS 6.5, I’m studying to get the PROFICIENCY (C2) certificate of Cambridge.

Teaching Experience:

I have quite a lot of experience teaching children and adults through my musical abilities, I have had several exchanges with Scottish people since I began living in Glasgow 10 years ago. Because of this I realised that I loved teaching my own language (Spanish).
Here you have several places where I have taught:

2024 Paisley Grammar Senior Orchestra

2017- 2024 El Sistema Big Noise Glasgow and Aberdeen Lower string tutor
Currently working for El Sistema Big Noise Glasgow as a lower string tutor.

2016-2021 RCS Music Centres, Stirling (Bannockburn)
Working as a low string teacher, teaching cello and double bass one to one lessons for groups of up to 5 children. Leading sectionals within the Senior and Junior orchestras.

2017- 2021 Kodaly/ Dalcrosse/ ORFF methods
Studying alternative methods of music teaching. Attending an exchange programme in the Hague, delivering Kodaly classes and observing professionals in the field.

2017 SCO Education programme
Worked for the SCO education programme as part of the Fringe.

2017 SCO Scheme
Selected to participate in the SCO/RCS Animateur Scheme. Working in groups with SCO players to conduct workshops with Glasgow school children, culminating in a performance based on the work of James MacMillan.

Community music- 2014- 2017
While I was studying at the RCS I chose to study Community music 1-3 and I especially loved working with all the children in my community music classes.

English Camp 2015-2016
I conducted a musical workshop in Sierra Nevada this summer, designed to introduce children aged 8-14 to classical music.

Experimental of Music School September – June 2010-2013.
I worked as a cello teacher in a private school in the city center of Granada. There I taught cello and Music to children as well as adults. It was a great experience in which I learned how to teach cello to beginners.

Scout Group Santa Ana September – July 2012-2013.
Between 2012 and 2013 I worked with children between 6 and 8 years old, helping at campsites during Christmas, Easter and Summer Holidays. My responsibilities included teaching children to look after and respect the environment, to learn moral values in order to be a better citizen, appreciate friendships, how to help others, and more.

Teaching Approach:

I would consider myself a very sociable person with a great knack for working with children. I’m very responsible, organised and always committed to my work. I pay attention to details, which I feel is essential in order to teach music well.
With teaching, I believe the best method is one based on positive motivation. I try to be spontaneous when working with children, to keep them motivated and make sure they stay alert.
