Personal Description:
I was born in Switzerland of a Swiss mother and English father. I grew up partly in Basel and partly in London. I married an Englishman 40 years ago and came to live in Cheshire. I Have two children, a son of 34 and a daughter of 25. My husband is a senior Technician and AutoCAD Lecturer at MUM.
Teaching Experience:
I am a retired teacher of German, an examiner of German, German translator and interpreter. I worked for 35+ years for the Courts, the Customs and Excise and the police, as well as teaching German to GCSE and A level pupils; I also taught some business men.
Teaching Approach:
I absolutely love teaching. I am thrilled when my former pupils achieve their goals, like going to uni to study German or to Manchester Grammar to continue with German. I love helping them and try and make it fun and interesting. Motivation is a big part of my teaching style.

MargaretFrom Georgina (5/5): Maggie is brilliant, she is knowledgeable, experienced, kind, honest and very encouraging. I look forward to my lesson every week and you can tell she loves teaching languages- cannot recommend enough :)

From Isobel (/5): I have been having weekly tutoring sessions with Maggie and I absolutely love it! Maggie is very flexible in her approach and we always have time for some chatting, which means I am always comfortable and 'warmed up' for learning. Maggie's approach is to encourage her pupils and she focuses on praise, letting you know that finding a creative or alternative way with the language - even if you don't always get it 100% right - is better than not having a go at all. I find this great and I have felt confident during our sessions. Maggie is also pretty funny and puts me at ease - I look forward to our sessions each week. Maggie is great at providing resources and sending them on following lessons, which means that there is nothing lost from having a virtual session rather than a live session. I thoroughly recommend having her as a tutor!

From Sarah (/5): Maggie is a wonderful tutor! She’s very dedicated, knowledgeable, flexible and friendly. Following each lesson she sends me typed lists and recordings of all the vocabulary we have covered in the lesson, which is very helpful. I really look forward to my German lessons each week!

From Chiara (/5): I took German classes with Margaret during my stay in Prestbury as an Au Pair. She was more than fantastic! Patient, professional, funny, always happy and such a chatterbox (she taught me this word). The lessons were very useful and now that I've started University in Italy again I can really see the results. Absolutely recommended!

I am a second year university student who struggles a lot with basic grammar and she knows exactly how to help. She is a great help assisting him regain confidence in his A level German in preparation for University following serious illness. She is a very warm and friendly teacher.
