Personal Description:

Teacher based in Barcelona (8 years plus) offering online tuition in Spanish and Catalan. I have a high level of mastery (C2) in both languages, which I use regularly in the course of everyday life, both socially and professionally. While a native Brit (half-Mexican) and English speaker, I'm deeply passionate about the Spanish language and love to share this passion with students.

Teaching Experience:

I have over 8 years of teaching experience in an array of subjects and environments. I have taught individuals and groups of various ages and abilities, preparing for exams or just building confidence and fluency.

Teaching Approach:

In general I take a friendly approach to teaching Spanish, though tailored to the needs and interests of individual learners. I strongly value empathy in learning, and strive to see a problem or question through the learner’s eyes. I take a communicative approach to language teaching, focused on meaningful interactions, authentic materials and real-life situations. (Though happy to get stuck into grammar for fellow grammar nerds!) I aim to give students a flavour of life and culture in Spain and the Hispanic world, using real sights and sounds to bring the language to life.

From Nicola (5/5): Luke was really helpful despite being given only a short period to effect some change for my daughter's philosophy A Level - useful commentary on her written work and he really helped her organise the knowledge she had so that she could reproduce it succinctly during the exam. I hope the results bear testimony to that!

From Rebecca (5/5): So far my daughter has had only one Skype session with Luke. Although we were uncertain how a Skype session would work, Luke suggested we have a trial go to see how well it would work. My daughter really enjoyed the session and thought Luke was a great teacher. Luke was extremely helpful she said that it was the first time she had really understood Deontology clearly! We have now arranged for regular weekly Skype sessions with Luke.

From Sonia (5/5): Luke really helped my daughter in the run up to her Philosophy A level. Having him to talk over aspects of the subject really increased her confidence. Luke was also easy to contact, always on time and reliable. I'd definitely recommend him to others.
