Information About Kennedy - Leeds teacher
I am a native and lifelong speaker of the Swahili language having been born in Kenya where Swahili is the national language and spoken by about 98% of the population. Am a medical scientist by training specializing in physiology/pharmacology and toxicology having recently completed my postgraduate studies in Drug Toxicology and Safety Pharmacology for the Universityof Bradford. I also take great interest in teaching swahili as well as learning languages other foreign languages such as French and Italian.
I began tutoring Swahili from my native Kenya as a private tutor offering tuition classes to primary and secondary school students. I taught at the level of intermediate and advanced level including poetry and literature as Swahili has been taught formally in schools in Kenya since the inception of the education system.
Here in the UK I have had a brief teaching spell during the summer of 2016 and 2017, teaching a small class of 10 students all of whom were at the beginner level. I am now looking to broaden my teaching experience and further build and advance my teaching skills and become super competent in the process.
I have had to develop an unique technique towards teaching those the beginner level. My approach is to try and to build language skills from the ground up. This involves firstly introducing students to unique Swahili syllables ensuring they can write and pronounce these syllables with little or no difficulty. Next students will learn simple words and their meaning and finally simple sentence construction.
Its form this foundation that students can then progress to the next levels should they wish to do so. I believe my approach accelerates the learning process and builds a good understanding of the Swahili language to those learning it for the first time.
