Information About Katrin - Chester teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Katrin:
Hello, my name is Katrin. I am a native German, working mum and have been living in the UK for over 13 years now. I´d love to be your language learning coach (It´s a bit like training for a sports competition.), encourage you to keep going (Let´s aim for a medal!), demystify grammar (It´s only a set of rules.) and take away the fear of speaking in a foreign language (We all make mistakes - that´s how we learn!). Whatever you need help with: I offer German and English (TEFL/TESOL) foreign language tuition for getting you on the right track starting off with language learning, getting better grades and more confidence in school, preparing for GCSE or other language exams (level A1-B2), TESOL/SELT for immigration or adult learners for business purposes or a stay abroad. I hold a recent 120 hour TEFL certificate and am currently completing a course in online teaching at the Goethe Institute.
Maybe I didn't go down the standard route of becoming a tutor and rather than formal qualifications or a past school teacher job, I offer a bit of a "mixed bag" of experiences:
After learning English at school in Germany, I then went on to live a year abroad as a 16-year-old exchange student in the USA. A host family in Texas chose me, so I do know how it feels being a student struggling to understand people speaking in a foreign language. After I came back from America I started tutoring in Germany while doing my "A-levels" (German Abitur)
I always love new challenges, I have given talks on Bilingualism, Engineering, Science and Photography and other topics to a variety of audiences including my daughter´s primary schools.
My other career, working as a freelance TV engineer, has brought me all around the world including 5 Olympic Games on 3 different continents where communication and people skills are highly important, a great variety of languages are spoken onsite and it´s often linked to student programs learning and teaching on the job. While working in Germany I taught media engineering students at the University of Applied Science in Düsseldorf and at the European Institute for Media Technology in Hürth.
Last but not least I have two school age children myself (currently year 5 & year 7). I enjoy helping them with their school work, teach german language and culture. Over the years I have witnessed a variety of different approaches of teaching languages in different countries.
I am happy to teach conversational as well as more structured lessons, I am very flexible to adapt to your needs and happy to communicate through a variety of media, even in between lessons. I look forward to meeting you, have some fun together and get to know each other. Currently all tuition is online (Skype, Zoom, Adobe Connect, Moodle, etc) as per Government guidance but when it´s safe to do so I am happy to continue in person at your home or mine, or why not go for a conversational walk & talk lesson… whatever works best!
