Personal Description:

I'm Kate, recently moved to the north of England after many years working, studying, and travelling abroad. I love learning about other cultures, and that means learning languages: after studying French at school, I've continued to improve through working in French-speaking countries such as the Democratic Republic of Congo; a degree in Arabic led me deep into the beauty of Arabic dictionaryland and on to live in the mountains of Yemen; and a PhD about gender on the Swahili Coast took me to Zanzibar, where I became fluent in Swahili.

Teaching Experience:

I love sharing my delight in languages with others.

I'm a CELTA-qualified English teacher and have taught English to non-native speakers since 2002, both in the classroom and one-to-one tutorials, and spent the last four years teaching academic English at Leiden University in the Netherlands.

I've also taught French, Arabic, and Swahili to people from all walks of life.
A-level students wanting to perfect their French grammar.
Doctors going to work in Tanzania, in need of a grounding in Swahili.
Travellers and business people heading to the Middle East, curious to learn a bit of Arabic.
