Personal Description:
I am a qualified primary teacher with a language specialism. I have been working in education for 10 years. Although not a native Spaniard, I have a lot of contact with my Spanish relatives and friends and have lived and worked in Madrid. I also worked for a major Spanish bank, for four years, in their main London branch.
Teaching Experience:
I am currently planning and teaching Spanish to primary children.
Teaching Approach:
My philosophy is that we learn a second language much in the way we learn our first. By this I mean we understand much of it long before we can speak it ourselves. For this reason I speak to my pupils in Spanish all the time (translating into English as I go along). This way, they become attuned to the sound of Spanish and hear words spoken in context. When they understand me they are half way to speaking it themselves. The lessons are fun and relevant, we play games and songs, and before very long the children acquire a sizeable vocabulary and are even forming short sentences. I think that pronounciation is very important and young children and older beginners can learn how to sound just like a Spaniard from the first lesson!
